Hostmonster just deleted my entire web hosting account because they said I had too many “files.” Actually, I have NO individual files. I only have about 15 Joomla sites and nothing else. And there are no file storage aspects to any of the Joomla sites. They advertise hosting for an unlimited number of Joomla sites. I am not a porn purveyor or a music pirate!!! I did not use the account for electronic file storage. All my Joomla blog websites are for non-profit groups such as dog rescue. I used my account legitimately and paid twice for an annual subscription. I DID NOT exceed my bandwidth or my storage limits. And the Hostmonster home page says nothing about “number of files” limits, which appears to be even more important than bandwidth. Their terms of service also gives NO “number of files” limits. I even communicated with them by phone after receiving a warning to remove files to let them know that it was going to take me awhile to backup and such since my father had just passed away and my mother was hospitalized for an emergency and I am her only caretaker. What hindered me was they kept locking me out so that I couldn’t log in to my account in order to perform backup and removal procedures. This required installing Joomlapack on all my sites. I also notified them that all the files on my hosting account were Joomla files and necessary for the operation of Joomla.
Needless to say, when I logged in today to complete the back up operation, there was a message saying “your account has been deleted.” I called and they said they had refunded my money for the balance of the year!!!! AND they had not kept a backup of the files, which they deleted 2 weeks ago…
I can’t believe I actually used to refer people with business sites to this company. For now, the only thing I can do is send an email to the hundreds of people on my web design mailing list telling them to move their stuff pronto to another host.
Instead of being sympathetic for a long time customer and trying to help me out due to the death in my family, (let’s try “I’m sorry your father died.”) instead they rudely quoted stock answers about their terms of service containing a note about file limits (along with a million other legalities.)
They failed to address the reason they don’t state limits on their sales page which are critical. When I signed up I even asked them if there were any other critical limits I needed to know about and they said “no.”
I reviewed their terms of service and I see NOWHERE in it that tells the number of files one can host. There is absolutely NOTHING that addresses file limits. Here is the TOS link http://www.hostmonster.com/cgi/info/terms.html
NOTE: There is no tool or other place in the control panel or anywhere on their website for a member to monitor number of files used. They claim you have to call them to get that information, which is also not in the Terms of Service.

Tell you what.
Hotmail deleted my cherished email account because I send a friend a small app.
No amount of begging or pleading helped get it back.
It was a bitter pill and I had to swallow it.
My heartfelt condolences. R.I.P. Hostmaster.
